Meditation Basics

Four weeks of live, practical meditation instruction with meditation friends Jennifer Rose and Giancarlo Luiggi.

Meditation does not have to be mysterious, intimidating, or perfect.

This course is for people who are curious about meditation, people who have tried and wandered away, and people who already have a meditation habit but feel their practice has become a little dry, mechanical, or disconnected from deeper progress.

Together, we will return to the basics in a warm and grounded way: how to sit, how to work with the breath, what to do when the mind wanders, and how to build or refresh a practice that can actually support your life.

You do not need previous experience. You do not need to be especially calm. You do not need to know how to “empty your mind.”

And if you already meditate, you do not need to start over. Sometimes returning to the basics is how practice becomes alive again.

How this class will be taught

This will be a live, conversational class, hybrid (Zoom and live in Brooklyn), not a recorded course. You will be joining a conversation between two old meditation friends, and everyone in the class will be welcome to join in — by speaking up or by typing in the chat. Just listening is also completely welcome. Jennifer and Giancarlo will share from their own practice, respond to questions, and explore the basics of meditation in a way that feels personal, practical, and alive. You will receive basic instruction and have time to practice in this class.

In this class, we will explore:

  • Simple ways to prepare the body and mind for meditation
  • Breath awareness and basic relaxation
  • What it means to witness thoughts without being swept away by them
  • How to work gently with distraction
  • How to refresh a practice that has become mechanical or inconsistent
  • How to build a small, sustainable home practice

Who this is for

This class may be a good fit if you:

  • Want to begin meditating but are not sure how
  • Have tried meditation and felt discouraged
  • Used to meditate and would like to return
  • Already meditate but feel your practice has gone flat or stalled
  • Have a busy or restless mind
  • Want a grounded practice without pressure or performance
  • Are looking for a simple way to return to yourself beneath the noise

We are offering three payment levels for you to join. Each level receives the same class! Patrons are helping to cover the supported fee so that everyone can participate in the joyful discovery of or deepening of a meditation practice. These buttons take you to PayPal and your PayPal receipt is your guarantee of admission.

You will also receive a welcome email with information about how to prepare for class, including the location of the in person gathering in Brooklyn.

Jennifer Rose teaches from the Himalayan tradition, offering movement, breath, and meditation practices that help students return to greater balance and wholeness.

Special Guest: Giancarlo Luiggi

I first taught with Giancarlo in New York in about 2000, giving us more than 50 years of background in meditation together. He is extraordinary. A musician as well as a meditator, he brings deep insights into beauty and rhythm that make sitting joyful.
